Fabrication & Welding Manager

A structural steel specialist is currently looking for a permanent Fabrication & Welding Manager to take full ownership of production output across two fabrication workshops in Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire.

Start Date: Immediate
Salary: Circa £60,000 per annum (negotiable DOE) + performance-related bonus
Contract: Permanent
Package: 28 days annual leave (incl.

bank holidays), pension scheme, genuine progression within a growing business

This is a hands-on leadership post sitting within the existing management team, suited to someone with real depth in heavy-gauge carbon steel and a methodical approach to running a workshop floor.

Duties:

  • Take charge of every fabrication and welding operation running out of both depots

  • Write and keep current the working procedures that govern welding and fabrication, aligned to both industry norms and individual customer specifications

  • Hold the workshops to BS EN ISO 3834-2, 9606, 15614, 5817 and BS EN 1090, alongside internal tolerances on dimension and strength

  • Set the standard on the floor for welders and fabricators, holding the team to expectations around quality, throughput and safe working

  • Build a production programme that protects delivery dates while cutting down on wasted material and repeat work

  • Keep risk assessments current for every fabrication and welding activity carried out on site

  • Push improvement through the workshop and embed lean manufacturing thinking

  • Work shoulder to shoulder with estimating, design and logistics so production and commercial targets line up

  • Uphold health and safety practice to UK legislation, with all lifting operations meeting LOLER requirements

  • Keep full traceability on materials — serial numbers, steel batch records and supporting paperwork across both locations

  • Oversee stock levels for raw material, consumables and components so nothing holds up production or ties up cost

  • Meet COSHH obligations covering how paints, chemicals and other hazardous products are used and stored

Requirements:

  • At least 3 years running fabrication or welding at senior management level within structural steel

  • Sound technical grasp of carbon steel fabrication, MIG welding and working across varying thicknesses

  • Recognised trade qualification in welding or fabrication — NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or similar

  • Managing teams and sequencing production workflow

  • Working knowledge of welding codes and standards through to EXC3

  • A disciplined, process-led way of planning, delivering and improving

  • Strong communicator with the management ability a production environment demands

  • Full UK driving licence, as travel between the two workshops is required
