Warehouse Operative

The Warehouse Operative is responsible for the secure processing, testing, repair,

refurbishment, data sanitisation and grading of IT equipment received through the

company's IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) services.

The role ensures all customer assets are

handled securely and processed in accordance with company procedures, customer

requirements, and the requirements of the Integrated Management System (ISO 9001, ISO

14001 and ISO 27001).

Key Responsibilities

- Receive and inspect incoming IT equipment.

- Verify assets against customer manifests and delivery documentation.

- Record and update asset information within the company's asset management

system.

- Identify and securely process all data-bearing devices.

- Perform certified data erasure using approved software and hardware solutions.

- Verify successful data sanitisation and maintain complete audit records.

- Diagnose hardware faults on desktops, laptops, servers and other IT equipment.

- Repair and upgrade equipment by replacing approved components, including

memory, storage drives, batteries, keyboards, screens and other field-replaceable

parts.

- Install and configure operating systems and required software where applicable.

- Carry out functional testing to ensure equipment meets quality standards.

- Grade equipment in accordance with the company's ITAD grading criteria.

- Prepare refurbished equipment for resale, redeployment or customer return.

- Dismantle equipment beyond economic repair for parts recovery or recycling.

- Ensure reusable components are recovered and correctly stored.

- Maintain accurate records of repairs, testing and grading activities.

- Prepare completed equipment for storage, dispatch or customer collection.

- Support inventory management and stock control activities.

- Maintain high standards of housekeeping within the workshop.

- Report damaged equipment, non-conformities and security incidents promptly.

- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives and process development.

Technical Responsibilities

- Diagnose hardware and basic software faults.

- Replace defective components using approved repair procedures.

- Update BIOS and firmware where required.

- Install operating systems and drivers.

- Perform hardware diagnostics and stress testing.

- Verify equipment functionality before release.

- Ensure all repairs meet company quality standards.

- Escalate complex technical faults when necessary.

Skills & Experience

Essential

- Good understanding of desktop and laptop computer hardware.

- Experience diagnosing and repairing IT equipment.

- Good attention to detail.

- Strong organisational skills.

- Basic knowledge of Windows operating systems.

- Ability to follow documented procedures.

- Good written and verbal communication skills.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable

- Previous experience within an ITAD or refurbishment environment.

- Experience with enterprise IT equipment.

- Familiarity with certified data erasure software.

- Experience using asset management systems.

- Knowledge of Microsoft Windows deployment.

- CompTIA A+, Microsoft or similar technical qualification.

- Forklift licence (desirable but not essential)
