Senior Façade / Cladding Designer

A façade and cladding specialist is currently looking for a permanent Senior Façade / Cladding Designer in South East London.

Joining an established design team, this is a hybrid role combining office-based work, remote working and regular site attendance, producing cladding construction, installation and setting-out drawings on predominantly UK-based projects.

Start Date: Immediate or early start is preferred
Salary: £52,000 - £60,000 per annum, depending on experience and suitability for the role

Location: South East London

Duties:



  • Produce detailed cladding construction and installation drawings.

  • Prepare elevations, plans, fire barrier details and site investigation drawings.

  • Produce accurate panel and sub-grid setting-out drawings.

  • Prepare material take-offs and coordinate quantities and technical information with the commercial team.

  • Carry out site surveys and inspections, including accurate photographic and site records.

  • Attend design and progress meetings with clients, architects, engineers, Building Control and other project stakeholders.

  • Liaise with manufacturers and suppliers to obtain technical specifications, product confirmations, U-values and condensation risk calculations.

  • Coordinate design information with client representatives, structural engineers, consultants and site teams.

  • Maintain project documentation, drawing registers, RFIs, revision records and change logs.

  • Prepare and issue technical submissions and updated drawings to clients and project teams.

  • Participate in weekly internal design coordination meetings.

  • Undertake continuous professional development, including supplier-led CPDs and technical training.


Requirements:



  • Degree-level qualification in Civil or Mechanical Engineering, Construction, Architecture or a related discipline; equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.

  • Minimum 5 years' UK experience in cladding design.

  • Demonstrable professional experience in cladding design.

    Candidates with curtain walling-only experience will not be considered.

  • Proficient in AutoCAD 2D, PDF editing/markup software, Microsoft Office and Outlook.

  • Sound technical knowledge of cladding systems, panels, insulation, fixings, fire barriers and membranes.

  • Good understanding of fire barrier design and associated fixing systems.

  • Experience producing and interpreting fabrication drawings.

  • Working knowledge of U-values and condensation risk analysis for external wall build-ups.

  • Able to produce accurate sub-grid and panel setting-out drawings.

  • Able to develop drawings and design information from site photographs, surveys and mapping tools such as Google Maps/Earth.

  • Able to work independently and interpret verbal instructions, written information, sketches and site information with minimal supervision.

  • Comfortable working under pressure, prioritising workloads and managing at least two projects concurrently.

  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

  • Proactive, conscientious and solution-focused approach.

  • Currently based in the UK with full right to work in the UK.

  • Based within a reasonable commuting distance of North Greenwich / the M25.

  • A PDF portfolio containing representative cladding design drawings must be submitted.

    Applications without a relevant portfolio will not be considered.

  • Experience with 3D AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit and Bluebeam (Advantageous).

  • Ability to produce clear technical hand sketches (Desirable).

  • Full UK driving licence (Preferred).

Working Pattern:



  • Hybrid: office-based work, remote working and regular site attendance.

  • Office attendance: minimum one day per week.

    Travel to the office is not reimbursed.

  • Site attendance: typically a minimum of one site visit per week, subject to project workload and requirements.

    Approved site travel expenses, including mileage, train travel and parking, are reimbursed.

  • Projects are predominantly UK-based, with occasional overnight stays where project requirements demand.
