Four-day working week | Fridays normally off | £4,000+ gross monthly earning potential

Location: Based in Cottingham, with regular travel and working away across mainland UK.

Salary: Earning potential of £4,000+ gross per month, including overtime (not a guaranteed basic salary).

Contract: Full-time, permanent.

Smart Power is looking for a qualified electrician to join our growing installation team.

We carry out commercial and industrial electrical installation work across mainland UK, including projects in automotive workshops and other active commercial settings.

You’ll generally work in a two-person team, with accommodation arranged by the office and support throughout the job.

The working week

Our normal working pattern is Monday to Thursday, with 40 basic paid hours and opportunities for overtime.

When working away, we normally leave on Monday morning, stay away for three nights and return on Thursday evening.

Changes to this usual pattern are uncommon and would be discussed with the team with as much notice as possible.

Fridays are normally off, giving you a three-day weekend.

Any additional Friday work is optional, subject to availability and agreed in advance.

Pay and package

• Earning potential of £4,000+ gross per month, including overtime.
• Basic rate of £18.50 per hour, with higher starting rates considered for experience and qualifications, including £20 per hour for an experienced Approved Electrician.
• Authorised overtime paid at time and a half after 40 qualifying hours per week.
• Business travel paid at the applicable hourly rate, from departure from our Cottingham yard through to return, including travel between accommodation and site.
• Accommodation arranged and paid for by the company, with your own bedroom.
• £20 overnight allowance for each night spent working away.
• Company van for business use, collected from and returned to our secure Cottingham yard.
• 5.6 weeks’ paid holiday per year, including bank holidays.
• Workplace pension.
• Initial review after around three to four months, followed by annual reviews, with opportunities to progress based on performance and responsibility.

The role

Typical work includes:

• Commercial and industrial electrical installations.
• Power supplies and connections for specialist equipment.
• Containment, cabling and wiring.
• Working safely and professionally in occupied premises.
• Supporting your teammate and, as you develop, taking responsibility for jobs and supervising an electrician’s mate.

You’ll initially work alongside an existing lead engineer to learn how we operate.

We welcome newly qualified electricians with the right approach, as well as experienced electricians ready to take on more responsibility.

What we’re looking for

• NVQ Level 3 electrical qualification, AM2 and 18th Edition, or recognised equivalent qualifications.
• A full driving licence valid for driving our vans in the UK.
• Willingness to work away Monday to Thursday most weeks.
• A reliable, organised approach and pride in the quality of your work.
• The ability to work well in a small team and communicate with colleagues and customers.

Commercial or industrial installation experience is desirable.

Higher qualifications, including inspection and testing qualifications and Approved Electrician status, will be considered when agreeing your starting rate.

We aim to give our engineers the organisation and support they need to get on with the installation.

The office plans work, organises materials and accommodation, and supports the teams while they are on site.
