Finance Manager
Finance Manager
Location: Windham, Maine, USA - On-Site
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Finance Manager to join a specialist engineering business serving international markets through advanced technology and engineered products.
The organisation operates within a technically complex, manufacturing-focused environment, supplying products for commercial, communications, industrial and defence-related applications.
With a small local team and an international group structure, the business combines the agility of a smaller operation with the financial reporting standards and governance expected of a larger organisation.
This is a senior, hands-on finance position with responsibility for the full finance function, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, commercial analysis and financial controls.
Working closely with the Managing Director and the wider group finance team, the successful candidate will help maintain robust financial processes while providing meaningful insight to support business performance and decision-making.
The role would suit an experienced finance professional who enjoys working independently, improving processes and balancing detailed financial control with commercial priorities.
Experience in manufacturing or engineered products, alongside group reporting and month-end ownership, would be particularly beneficial.
Main Responsibilities of the Finance Manager (Windham, Maine, USA):
- Take ownership of the full month-end close and deliver accurate, timely financial reporting to senior management and the wider group
- Prepare monthly management accounts, balance sheet reporting, cash flow information and financial forecasts
- Coordinate group reporting submissions in line with established deadlines and reporting requirements
- Lead annual budgeting and reforecasting, covering revenue, costs, overheads, headcount and capital expenditure
- Maintain rolling cash flow forecasts and monitor liquidity, working capital and business performance
- Analyse costs, margins and commercial results to identify opportunities to improve profitability and operational efficiency
- Work with Sales and Operations to assess performance against targets and support pricing, product mix, quoting and make-or-buy decisions
- Provide financial analysis to support investment and capital expenditure proposals
- Establish, document and maintain effective financial controls, policies and procedures across the business
- Manage the annual external audit and coordinate statutory, regulatory and tax reporting with external advisers
- Monitor financial risks and ensure compliance with applicable US requirements, group policies and relevant quality and export-control obligations
- Manage day-to-day banking relationships, cash and liquidity, payment runs and treasury administration
- Oversee accounts receivable and credit control in collaboration with the Sales team
- Maintain oversight of property leases, occupancy costs, property tax obligations and renewal deadlines
- Coordinate business insurance arrangements and renewals with senior management and external providers
- Oversee outsourced HR, payroll and insurance partners, monitoring service standards and resolving or escalating issues
- Review and approve bi-weekly payroll and ensure employee onboarding, offboarding and benefits processes are completed on time
- Develop and maintain practical checklists and procedures for month-end close, group reporting, compliance deadlines, audit preparation and payment approvals
- Work collaboratively with international colleagues across time zones and contribute to continuous improvement of financial processes
Requirements of the Finance Manager (Windham, Maine, USA):
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related discipline
- Extensive accounting and finance experience
- Proven experience owning a complete month-end close and delivering financial reports to fixed deadlines
- Experience reporting to a group, parent company or wider corporate finance function
- Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and financial controls
- Experience managing external audits and coordinating statutory, regulatory and tax reporting
- Ability to operate independently as a senior finance professional without a supporting finance team
- Commercially minded, with the ability to turn financial data into clear recommendations for business improvement
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong practical experience using ERP systems and financial reporting tools
- Excellent analytical, organisational and communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail
- Strong integrity and discretion when handling confidential financial, personnel and commercially sensitive information
- Ability to manage competing priorities and collaborate effectively with colleagues across different functions and time zones
Desirable:
- CPA, CMA or equivalent professional accounting qualification; an MBA would also be advantageous
- Experience in manufacturing, engineered-to-order products or a technically focused business
- Background in cost accounting, product costing and gross margin improvement
- Exposure to electronics, aerospace, defence or communications supply chains
- Experience with multi-entity or multi-currency reporting
- Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, Dynamics NAV or similar ERP systems
- Experience managing outsourced payroll, HR and insurance providers
- Knowledge of quality management systems, US export-control requirements or defence-contracting compliance
- Experience developing financial procedures, operational checklists and deadline-tracking systems
