Harper May

Financial Controller

Harper May is partnering with an established, owner-led investment management firm based in central London.

The firm manages capital across a diversified book of investment strategies, with activity spanning public and private markets alongside a wider base of long-term holdings.

The finance function is being strengthened as the business continues to scale, and a Financial Controller is being appointed to take hands-on ownership of the numbers and partner closely with the leadership team.

The Role
Reporting into the senior finance lead and working alongside a lean, high-calibre team, the Financial Controller will own the monthly close, group reporting and controls across a multi-entity structure.

The role sits close to the principals and suits a fully qualified accountant who is comfortable moving between the detail and the broader commercial picture, and who wants real ownership of the finance function inside a well-run investment business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the monthly close and management accounts across the firm's operating and holding entities
  • Prepare consolidated reporting across a multi-entity structure spanning multiple jurisdictions
  • Lead the annual audit and statutory reporting process across the group
  • Oversee the finance team on day-to-day accounting, AP, AR and payroll
  • Strengthen financial controls, reporting process and systems across the function
  • Support cash management, treasury and intercompany positions across the group
  • Partner with the leadership team on ad-hoc analysis, structuring and new fund or vehicle set-up
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors and administrators

What we are looking for

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA)
  • Prior experience inside an investment manager, asset manager, hedge fund, private equity house or family office is strongly preferred
  • Strong technical accounting foundation, comfortable with multi-entity and multi-jurisdiction reporting
  • Hands-on and detail-led, with the confidence to review as well as prepare
  • Clear communicator, able to work directly with principals and senior leadership
  • Based within a comfortable commute of central London; office-first culture
