Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Helsinki, Finland

A specialist engineering business is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its engineering team in Helsinki.

The organisation develops and manufactures advanced technical products for demanding applications, with a focus on quality, performance and continuous improvement.

This role will focus on the mechanical design, modification and optimisation of existing products, as well as supporting the development of new solutions.

You will work within a small engineering team, taking ownership of design activities from concept through prototyping and into production.

The position would suit a practical, hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys working with intricate products, balancing technical performance with cost and manufacturability.

You will collaborate closely with colleagues across engineering and manufacturing, contributing ideas and improvements while working with a good degree of autonomy.

Main Responsibilities of the Mechanical Design Engineer (Helsinki):

• Design, develop and modify mechanical components and assemblies for existing and new products.


• Review and optimise current designs, identifying opportunities to improve performance, reliability, manufacturability and cost.


• Produce detailed 3D CAD models, technical drawings and supporting documentation.


• Support prototyping, testing and design validation activities.


• Work closely with manufacturing to resolve design-related production issues and improve manufacturing processes.


• Manage design changes and maintain accurate technical documentation through the relevant PLM systems.


• Collaborate with internal engineering teams and other departments to deliver projects effectively.


• Take ownership of assigned design activities, ensuring work is delivered to the required quality and timescales.

Requirements of the Mechanical Design Engineer (Helsinki):

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent technical qualification.


• Approximately five years' experience in a mechanical design engineering position.


• Practical experience working with mechanical products, ideally within an operational or manufacturing environment.


• Strong 3D CAD design experience, including the production of detailed models and engineering drawings.


• Experience using PLM systems and managing engineering documentation.


• A hands-on approach, with the ability to understand how designs translate into physical products and manufacturing processes.


• Good problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance technical requirements, cost and practical constraints.


• Fluent English communication skills.

Desirable:

• Experience using SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM.


• Experience designing smaller, intricate mechanical products or assemblies.


• Knowledge of prototyping, product testing and design optimisation.


• Finnish language skills.
