Interim Legal Services Lead - NHS

Location: London, Hybrid or Remote Based
Duration: 3 months
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
Band: Band 8a

About the Role:

Our client, a leading NHS Trust in London, is seeking an experienced Interim Legal Services Lead to join their team for a 3-month period.

This role is crucial for managing complex legal cases, including inquests, safeguarding inquiries, and claims.

The successful candidate will oversee their own caseload, provide high-quality legal support, and assist junior team members.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage and investigate complex inquests, safeguarding inquiries, and claims.


• Provide legal advice and support to staff and external stakeholders.


• Represent the Trust at inquest hearings, including advocacy and submission of evidence.


• Support and deputize for the Head of Legal Services as needed.


• Deliver legal services training to the wider Trust.


• Liaise with various internal and external parties including NHS Resolution, HM Coroner, and solicitors.


• Maintain high standards of legal service provision and information flow.


• Ensure compliance with legal standards and Trust policies.

What We're Looking For:

• A law degree or equivalent relevant experience of at least 3 years.


• Extensive experience in managing complex inquests and legal claims within the NHS or similar setting.


• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.


• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


• Ability to manage sensitive and contentious information professionally.


• High level of IT proficiency, particularly with Microsoft Office.


• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organizational skills.


• Experience in staff management and delivering training packages is desirable.
