Mechanical Engineer
Insignis Talent are currently working with a multi-national Maritime Defence company, who's broad portfolio of capabilities is operational on UK naval fleets and allied navies worldwide.
They specialise in the design, development and production of the key elements of mission critical, intelligent and highly regulated solutions across surface, sub-surface and unmanned platforms.
They are currently seeking an Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team on a permanent basis.
At their site in Staffordshire, you will place a key role in the development of expert solutions that help shape the future of naval warfare.
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will sit within a complex enclosure design team, so a comprehensive approach that considers factors such as environmental protection, material selection, EMI/RFI shielding, heat management and size and form factor as paramount.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
- Generating concept design proposals and feasibility studies to support product development programs
- Carrying out elements of product design
- Contributing to the development of engineering excellence within the business
- Providing mechanical engineering expertise in support of future business opportunities
To be successful in this position, you will need:
Essential:
- A degree or higher in mechanical engineering
- Broad knowledge of all aspects of engineering, such as systems, electrical, electro-mechanical, and rotating machinery
- Experience in manufacturing methods applicable to electrical enclosures, such as metal fabrications, castings, welding, machining, and corrosion protection
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software, preferably Solidworks
Desirable:
- Good knowledge of materials
- Good knowledge of best practices in design lifecycle processes, such as gated design phases and design reviews
- Experience in designing to strict requirements such as shock, EMC and thermal
- Strong communication skills and confidence in presenting in front of customers
