VAT Specialist

Job Description:

Do you have a strong background in VAT / Indirect Taxes? Our client, a global financial services firm, have an exciting opportunity for a VAT Specialist to join their London team on an initial 12-month contract.


Ideally, you'll have a minimum of 5 years' experience of working within a similar role and have completed a professional accountancy or tax qualification.



Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Professional Tax exams (ie CTA).

  • Expertise in teamwork and collaboration with experience in team/project-oriented activities.

  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to push back rather than be pushed into approving items they are not comfortable with or do not fully understand.

  • Familiarity with banking/financial services industry preferable.



Core Responsibilities:

  • Working with local LEC's and the VAT compliance team to provide information to Tax Authorities in a timely manner in response to audit requests.

  • Reviewing commodities trades to ensure compliance with the rules and working with Tech and Ops teams on a project to enhance the current commodities billing system.

  • Attending VAT return review meetings and analysing/challenging the data that you are presented with.

  • Supporting the team, Finance and the Business Units with ad hoc advisory requires.

  • Liaising with bankers and invoicing teams to advise on the VAT treatment of IBD (M&A) deals.

  • Collaborate in developing and enhancing procedures for the Indirect Tax team.

  • Coordinating with advisors in various countries to source sound VAT advice within budget.

  • Assisting with new VAT registrations and subsequent amendments/deregistrations.
