Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

In light of increasing demand for clinically excellent orthopaedic care locally, we now have a great opportunity for a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon to join the corresponding unit at a leading Shepton Mallet hospital.

Improving the outcomes for people with debilitating joint and musculoskeletal conditions in the South West remains a priority across the region, and this hospital plays an active role in planned orthopaedic care for NHS, self-funded, and insured patients from each corner - with a comprehensive strategy in place to meet and surpass the challenges resultant of an aging population and leading longer, more demanding lives.

Rated fully “Good” by the CQC in 2023, the hospital has a strongly patient-centred culture and high standards of safety, with strict clinical governance initiatives leading to a 100% clean record for HAIs.

The unit itself is a relaxed yet well-structured and high-performing environment, achieving adjusted PROMs consistently better than national average and length-of-stay averages for both hip and knee surgery significantly below 2 days.

As a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, you will perform a range of orthopaedic procedures and offer expert clinical opinion for patients referred to the department, taking advantage of keenly modern facilities and the latest in medical technologies.

You’ll have a particular focus towards hip and knee joint replacement/arthroplasty surgeries, with the opportunity to support development of the unit’s same-day discharge arthroplasty pathways; no trauma procedures are expected.

And, very much part of a national surgical network, you will be supported to take your career and learning in the direction you wish to go.

This is a permanent, full-time position over the working week; 4 days to be spent in practice, with the fifth day fixed and for your own professional use.

Part-time can also be considered.
