Family Support Social Worker

A Local Authority is looking for a Social Worker to join their Family Support Team in South Wales.

This is a permanent and full-time position that is hybrid working.




You must have a Diploma/Degree in Social Work and have the right to work in the UK (no VISA sponsorship available)

The Placements Team is responsible for assessing and approving foster placements in partnership with the Fostering Panel.

This includes a growing number of kinship placements, helping children remain within their wider family networks wherever possible.

The team also provides ongoing support to foster carers, promotes local carer recruitment and retention, and identifies and commissions placements for looked after children through both internal and independent fostering resources.

A dedicated therapeutic service within the team also works closely with children and carers to promote placement stability and prevent disruption.




About the job




  • Assessing and approving foster placements in partnership with the Fostering Panel

  • Supporting kinship placements to help children remain within their family networks

  • Providing ongoing supervision and support to foster carers

  • Promoting the recruitment and retention of local foster carers

  • Identifying and commissioning placements for children looked after across internal and independent fostering services

  • Working closely with the therapeutic team to promote placement stability and prevent disruption

  • Building strong working relationships with children, carers and partner agencies

  • Completing assessments, reports and fostering-related documentation




About you



The successful candidate will have a social work degree with post qualification experience in Children's Social Work whilst having an up-to-date understanding of relevant legislation.

You must be registered with Social Care Wales.
