Legal Works is delighted to be recruiting a Knowledge Development Lawyer / Professional Support Lawyer in the London office of this practice.
This is a great opportunity for an existing KDL / PSL or a lawyer / solicitor / barrister looking for a change in direction in career and particularly one with a better ‘work & home' life balance.
As the Knowledge Development Lawyer you will provide services to the Injuries Departments.
ROLE
The role will cover the ‘usual' aspects of a PSL / KDL role and will likely include all / most of the following:-
, Identifying & disseminating relevant legal & procedural developments, cases, news & articles to the various teams in the Injuries departments
, Assisting with the creation & management of precedents & additional legal knowledge & know-how for use by the Injuries departments;
, Collaborating with other members of the Knowledge department to share documents, developments & ideas and to optimise the dissemination of relevant knowledge to all departments within the firm;
, Identifying, drafting & publishing thought leadership articles;
, Identifying and preparing, in collaboration with others, responses to relevant consultations and/or lobbying opportunities on behalf of the firm;
, Carrying out research on discrete points of law and/or procedure;
, Identifying areas of risk and/or compliance and considering methods, processes and guidance which would assist the Injury departments and, where appropriate, wider firm, in minimising such risks;
, Devising and implementing processes & procedures to enable best practice in the delivery of legal services and to ensure compliance with any and all relevant regulatory obligations and internal practice and/or business management policies and principles;
, Identifying training needs of lawyers / paralegals within the Injury departments, working with the L&D team to design & deliver training sessions / programmes.
, Assisting lawyers within the Injury departments to achieve relevant industry accreditations;
, Working with heads of Injury departments to ensure the departments' know-how, training & guidance needs are met.
YOU
You will:-
, Be a qualified lawyer / barrister or existing KDL with at least 5/6 years' PQE in complex injury claims with values of in excess of £1m;
, Have strong technical and practical experience of relevant laws and procedures, including in relation to costs & funding rules and practical application in a personal injury & clinical negligence context;
, Have excellent legal analysis, drafting, reporting, data management & IT skills (including strong Excel proficiency) as well as communication & interpersonal skills;
, Be well organised, driven, with strong attention to detail, sound judgement & decision-making skills & an ability to manage own workload;
Desirable skills & /or experience of interest include: -
, PSL/KDL/knowledge role or involvement
, Legal training development and/or delivery
, Project management
, High Court and/or Court of Appeal trial preparation and attendance
, Cross-border aspects of injury litigation

The Role
To support Lawyers and Senior Lawyers in progressing full caseloads of Childcare Law matters through to completion
Administrative support to assist solicitors regularly to prepare for court hearings
Producing s.7 and s.37 reports as well as process disclosure and redaction requests.
Proof reading and routine advice to file and serve assessment reports from private law proceedings (occasionally adoption and special guardianship)
The Person
A law-related qualification (LPC, LLM, LLB) or qualified by experience would be essential for this role
Previous working experience within a Family or Childcare Law setting would also be essential for this position
Previous public sector working experience would be highly advantageous for this role
An ability to prioritise workload promptly and to work calmly to tight deadlines

Role
