Finance Manager

Harper May is currently in partnership with a renowned FMCG company.

Our client is presently in search of a skilled Finance Manager to become part of their continuously expanding team.

The Finance Manager will ensure the efficient day-to-day running and controls of the Finance Department for the company.

As Finance Manager this role involves maintaining tight control over all financial matters and reporting directly to the Managing Director.

The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a strong background in finance management.

Day to Day duties of the Finance Manager:


  • Oversee all financial functions, including accounting, payroll, billing, and sales ledger.
  • Manage weekly cash flow and working capital effectively.
  • Prepare and present accurate financial reports, including monthly management accounts, profitability analysis, sales reconciliations, and cash flow statements.
  • Maintain an accurate Asset Register.
  • Perform monthly COGS calculation and reconciliation.
  • Oversee balance sheet reconciliation.
  • Conduct weekly and monthly payroll checks and payments.
  • Set up and approve weekly payroll and supplier payments.
  • Engage in budgeting and forecasting, raising concerns, and recommending corrective actions as necessary.
  • Control operational costs while maintaining service quality and reporting on variances from the budget.
  • Prepare year-end statutory accounts and tax computations in collaboration with external accountants and internal control operations.
  • Manage external relationships with accountants, banks, insurers, brokers, and advisors.
  • Implement and maintain financial management systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Provide line management for an external bookkeeping service, including supervision, task delegation, and performance management.
  • Share knowledge with the team and contribute to the company’s succession planning activities.
  • Perform other duties as required from time to time.

Required Skills & Qualifications:


  • ACCA or CIMA qualified or part-qualified (to a higher level) or qualified by experience with a manufacturing/FMCG background and good understanding of COGS.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Senior Finance Role.
  • Proficient in legislation and best practices.
  • Experienced in using computerised accounting systems and delivering to deadlines.
  • Advanced user of MS Excel and proficient in standard office applications (MS Word, Outlook).
  • Exceptional communication skills at all levels.
  • Excellent organisational skills with high standards of accuracy.
  • Ability to handle high levels of pressure and critical decision-making.
  • Strong ethics, leadership, and clear decision-making.
  • High integrity and commitment to good governance.
