Job Title: Head Sommelier
Location: Malta 
Salary: Negotiable

I am working with an established hotel group in Malta.

We are looking for a knowledgeable and motivated Head Sommelier to take charge of the wine program and elevate the dining experience across their restaurant collection.

This role calls for someone with strong expertise in wine selection and service, as well as the ability to mentor and inspire a team.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and manage an extensive wine list tailored to different restaurant styles and cuisines
• Deliver a high standard of wine service and provide expert recommendations to guests
• Guide and train team members on wine knowledge, pairings, and service techniques
• Analyse wine sales and ensure the program is both profitable and of consistently high quality
• Oversee stock management, including ordering, checks, and storage
• Work closely with sommeliers, bar teams, and restaurant management to ensure seamless operations
• Maintain excellent guest relations, handling inquiries and offering a professional wine experience
• Ensure proper storage and serving standards for all wines

Candidate Profile

• At least 5 years of experience in sommelier roles, including 2 years in a leadership position
• WSET Level 3 or equivalent qualification 
• Strong understanding of international wine regions, vintages, and food pairings
• Skilled in leadership, training, and guest engagement
• Meticulous attention to detail and a strong passion for hospitality
• Knowledge of local vineyards and wineries is an advantage
• Based in Malta

• Strong communication skills in English (Maltese is an asset)
• Professional presentation and a welcoming personality
• Confident, approachable, and guest-focused
• Results-driven and able to perform well in a fast-paced environment
