Workday Finance Systems Specialist

Job Description

This role is responsible for the day-to-day ownership, support, optimisation and governance of the organisation's core finance ERP system and its associated analytics and accounting modules.

As the primary functional expert for finance systems, you will ensure platform stability, data integrity, effective controls and continuous improvement.

Working across Finance, Technology and Data, you will translate business requirements into effective system solutions while ensuring alignment with organisational technology strategy and the wider finance transformation roadmap.



Skills/Experience:

  • Strong knowledge and experience configuring, reporting on and optimising Workday Financial.

  • Good finance process knowledge across P2P, R2R and O2C

  • Experience managing incidents, enhancements and system changes within a controlled environment

  • Ability to translate finance requirements into proportionate system solutions

  • Experience prioritising competing operational and project demands

  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills

  • Experience producing and maintaining system documentation, controls and user guidance

  • Experience with a leading cloud finance ERP platform, such as Workday, would be an advantage

  • Experience with related analytics and accounting modules within that platform would be an advantage

  • Systems security or access management experience would be an advantage

  • Exposure to modern BI and data platforms (e.g.

    Power BI, Microsoft Fabric) would be an advantage

  • Previous line management or mentoring/coaching experience would be an advantage

  • No specific qualifications are required; a part or fully qualified accountancy qualification, or a project management/business analyst qualification, would be an advantage



Core Responsibilities:

  • Act as the day-to-day functional owner of the finance ERP system and its associated analytics and accounting modules

  • Manage configuration changes within agreed governance controls

  • Coordinate impact assessment, testing, user acceptance and deployment of system releases and configuration changes

  • Manage day-to-day relationships with the software vendor and third-party support providers, ensuring issues and change requests are progressed effectively

  • Oversee the finance systems support queue, triaging incidents and requests according to business impact, risk and agreed priorities

  • Maintain an appropriately prioritised backlog and agreed release schedule

  • Monitor recurring issues and lead root-cause analysis and preventative action

  • Support administration of access management controls

  • Support periodic security reviews

  • Ensure compliance with Finance and IT governance standards

  • Maintain system documentation, process maps and SOPs

  • Develop user guidance and provide training to Finance users to maximise system adoption

  • Develop and maintain system reports and dashboards

  • Represent finance data requirements within the wider data platform, supporting data definitions, validation, reconciliation and issues resolution in collaboration with Development and MI teams

  • Monitor data quality and resolve data issues

  • Support implementation of future finance systems

  • Identify and assess automation, AI and emerging technology opportunities within the finance systems suite

  • Provide clear objectives, supervision and development for the Finance Systems Analyst, promoting effective knowledge transfer and reducing reliance on individual system knowledge
