Senior Risk Analyst - Fund Risk

Job Description:

Our client is looking to appoint a Senior Risk Analyst - Fund Risk to take responsibility for fund risk oversight.

This is a broad, hands-on role combining oversight of fund risk management with analytical and reporting across the wider risk function.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day monitoring and oversight of fund-risk management arrangements, ensuring that relevant risks are identified, measured, monitored, challenged, escalated and reported through an effective framework of governance, policies, limits and controls.

You will form an independent view of the risks within the funds, critically assess information received from delegates and service providers, and provide clear reporting to the relevant Boards.

Alongside these regulated responsibilities, you will contribute to broader risk work, including hands-on analysis and defined projects, providing scope to build wider risk experience.

Skills/Experience:

  • Experience in fund risk, investment risk or investment oversight, preferably gained within an asset manager or comparable regulated environment.

  • Working knowledge of the regulatory framework for investment funds, including UCITS and AIFMD.

  • Previous experience in a regulated role is desirable, and the position may suit an experienced fund-risk professional who is ready to take on their first appointment of this kind.

  • Practical experience analysing fund portfolios and risk measures, including investment, market and liquidity risk, and assessing risk limits, stress testing, exceptions or breaches.

  • Experience supporting a senior regulated role would be an advantage.

  • Experience of regulator engagement or presenting to Boards or senior governance committees would be an advantage.

  • Experience with risk systems, data visualisation or analytical tools would be an advantage.

  • A relevant professional qualification, such as CFA, FRM or an equivalent, would be an advantage.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and oversee whether funds are managed in accordance with the fund risk management framework, approved risk appetite, offering documents, internal limits and applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Develop and maintain risk profiles for each fund, including appropriate risk metrics and tolerances, for review and approval before launch and as material changes arise.

  • Review fund risk information received from internal investment managers, delegates and service providers, investigating material movements and exceptions and documenting appropriate challenge and follow-up.

  • Ensure that appropriate risk controls, checks and stress testing are completed in line with applicable requirements, critically assessing the results.

  • Prepare clear, regular and ad hoc fund risk reporting for the relevant Boards, attending or presenting at meetings as required.

  • Assess the fund risk implications of new fund launches and material product changes.

  • Maintain the policies and procedures for the fund risk function, ensuring they remain fit for purpose and are reviewed and approved regularly.

  • Monitor relevant regulatory and industry developments and recommend proportionate changes to fund risk arrangements.

  • Contribute to wider risk analysis, reporting, thematic reviews, projects and risk initiatives.
