Electronics Design Engineer (HV Analogue) - London (Hybrid) - £60,000 + Bonus + Ex.

Primary Purpose:
The primary purpose of this role is to develop, qualify, and document high-voltage hardware for Power Feeding Equipment (PFE), which powers subsea systems by converting low to medium voltage DC to high voltage DC.

This involves designing and testing high-voltage circuits, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and optimising reliability, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Product Development: Engage in the development of high voltage circuits on PCBs, ensuring precise high-side current and high voltage measurements.

  • Circuit Design: Design both analogue and digital circuits, with an emphasis on analogue design.

    Knowledge of A to D and D to A techniques is advantageous.

  • Closed Loop Control: Apply understanding of closed loop control in the design process.

  • Power Electronics: UtiliSe power electronics knowledge to enhance product design.

  • Simulation and Tools: Use simulation tools like PSpice and schematic capture and PCB layout tools such as Zuken CR5000 or Altium.

    Proficiency in MS Office tools is essential.

  • Product Testing and Validation: Model and test developed products during the development phase.

    Formally validate them during the qualification phase against set requirements for functionality, environmental conditions, EMC, product safety (IEC-62368-1 compliance), reliability, availability, lifetime, manufacturability, testability, and cost.

  • Documentation: Generate requirement specifications, schematics, test information, reports, and manufacturing information as required to support the development and qualification of products.



Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in high voltage hardware design, closed loop control, analogue and digital circuit design, and power electronics.

Proficiency in simulation and schematic capture tools, along with excellent documentation skills, is crucial.

Purpose of the Job:


Development, qualification, and documentation of hardware to be used in Power Feeding Equipment (PFE) product.
The PFE provides the current to power undersea cable systems, generating High Voltage (up to 21kV DC at up to 2 Amps) from a low to medium voltage DC supply, with a long system life and high reliability.




Responsibilities:


Product development within the following Electrical \ Electronic engineering disciplines:

  • Hardware design of High Voltage circuits implemented on PCB, for example: MUST HAVE HV design
    Precision highside current measurement
    Precision High Voltage measurement

  • Closed loop control - some idea about this

  • Analogue and digital circuit design - essential analogue / digital desirable

  • A to D and D to A techniques - optional /advantageous

  • Power Electronics (not essential but will be an advantage)



Tools:
Simulation (e.g.

PSpice)
Schematic capture and PCB layout using Zuken CR5000 or Altium
MS Office tools

Developed products to be modelled and tested during the development phase and formally validated during the qualification phase against requirements for:

  • Agreed Functionality

  • Environmental conditions and EMC

  • Compliance with product safety standard IEC62368-1 (e.g.

    creepage, clearances)

  • Reliability, availability & lifetime

  • Manufacturability & testability (DFx)

  • Cost


Generation of requirement specifications, schematics, test information, reports, and manufacturing information as required.



Qualifications:


Electrical / Electronics Engineering Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject.
Minimum 3 years' experience in relevant R&D, preferably with experience of manufacturing.
Good understanding of general electrical/electronic and mechanical engineering principles.
Good communication skills.
