Steel Engineering Detailer

Engineering Detailer with steel experience needed in Greater Manchester.

What's the role all about?

This is an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Detailer to successfully complete various works associated related to the production and review of 3-D CAD models and the deliverables that come from them.

With an ambitious order book ahead of us we are looking for individuals who can hit the ground running and support the operational detailing team play an integral role in reviewing packages for completeness, technical accuracy and cost effectiveness.

Working 36 hours a week / Monday to Friday / Early afternoon finish on a Friday

The Engineering Detailer will be required to:



  • Prepare and check:

    • Fabrication drawings for all types of members and all types of structures.

    • G.A.

      & Marking Plan Drawings for all types of structures.

    • Wire-frame MTO models in 3-D CAD software including completeness checks etc.

    • “Typical” Connections and “Mass Application” in Working Models.

    • All detailing such as lifting holes and handrailing etc in Working Models.

    • Brought Out summary lists / Bought Out Schedules as requested by the PE or Section Leader.

    • Preliminary Material lists and associated rolling and carcass drawings.

    • Bolt location and bolt summary lists



  • Comply with all internal documents such as Engineering Office Guidance Notes, Work Instructions, Quality Management Systems and industry standards such as NSSS.

  • Complete and obtain approval for contract variation records and submissions for all Variation work undertaken from the Engineering Manager.

  • Liaise with Client's Engineer, Sub-Trades, and all internal Departments / Centres of the company as required.

  • Interpret and check Sub-Trade drawings (e.g.

    flooring, decking, cladding etc.).

  • Complete all engineering administration and co-ordination of smaller, self-contained contracts.

  • Generate Technical Queries / ITQ's and complete any administration related to these queries.



What are we looking for:



  • Qualified to minimum of BTEC ONC or equivalent in Civil or Mechanical Engineering with a sound level of practical detailing experience in a progressive engineering solutions, structural steelwork and construction environment.

  • Reliable experience of using Tekla Structural Designer Open API, or TSD Open API as an interface for applications to interact with the analysis model and results in Tekla.

  • Appreciation of steel grades, bolt grades, welding practices and all processes throughout the company, including manufacturing and erection.

  • High degree of computer literacy and be able to navigate around, structural steel Trimble Connect models.

  • Capacity to problem-solve technical issues, with sound spatial awareness and ability to conceptualise work in 3D.

  • Methodical, contentious approach to work and determination to produce consistent output of the highest quality

  • Strong work ethic and self-motivation for all assigned works.

  • Engaging communicator able to positively influence others and build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Flexibility and adaptability in taking varied work assignments as per company requirements

  • Commitment to completing deadline driven tasks (and willingness to put in extra efforts outside of core working hours if required).
